General Description of Position:
The primary goal of the College Connection Coach is to establish relationships with high school students in order to encourage and assist students toward enrollment in college and persistence toward degree completion. The College Connection Coach will plan and implement outreach services and dual credit opportunities in the Tippecanoe County school system to include Harrison, McCutcheon, Jefferson,Greater Lafayette Career Academy and West Lafayette. The Coach will provide college and career support to high school students who are entering the workforce or seeking a four-year degree upon completion of a Technical Certificate or Associate Degree. May work with the dual credit staff to support dual credit opportunities. Position reports to the Director of Secondary Initiatives
Major Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one coaching that:
Supports college attainment and career exploration
Complements services that may be available through high school, college, or the community including college exploration services, admissions processes, financial aid and scholarship resources, course selection and advising, development of an academic career plan, and resume and job interview preparation.
Utilizes community resources that support student access and success in college.
Recruitment for postsecondary education: Responsible for student recruitment by identifying high school juniors, seniors, or graduates who are college-bound.
Advising for Retention and Persistence:
Develop and convene regularly scheduled small group sessions for students throughout the academic year. These sessions are structured as informal group check-ins and as workshops designed to help students navigate the college environment, access resources, and build a network of peer support. (i.e. program specific groups, financial aid workshops, and ACT & SAT, Knowledge Assessments)
Provide support for employer partnerships:
Coach students on the transitions from high school to college to work.
Implement student career workshops, which may involve on-campus activities, tours, industry visits, and other experiential learning opportunities.
Assist with campus-based dual credit when necessary.
Program Reporting, Research, and Evaluation:
Maintains accurate records, collects and enters required information and case notes for each student in the coaching cohort, including regularly updated student contact information, and academic progress. Develops required reports.
Participate in ongoing tracking of outcomes, evaluation of services, and program development as part of the postsecondary team.
Must stay current with Ivy Tech programs, admission and registration processes, career and higher education trends, and requirements of the Indiana Department of Education.
The Coach will attend Ivy Tech meetings, training sessions and assist department with administrative duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-4 years related experience in advising, career counseling, recruiting, or other student service related job.
Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to initiate and balance multiple work projects. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team. Ability to travel throughout the assigned area is required and to the high schools mentioned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in K-12 or college-level. Also, training or teaching experience with young adults. Manage multiple projects; detail-oriented; excellent interpersonal skills including working successfully with diverse populations, including but not limited to college and school personnel, teachers and prospective students; experience with high school-to-college transition. Familiarity with Microsoft and Google Suites.
