General Description of Position:
Provide leadership and direction to Valparaiso/Michigan City campus academic advising efforts, including oversight of campus advising centers. Advising centers provide direction to students in the areas of academic and career advising and transfer services. Provide support to the Vice Chancellor in development, maintenance, and interpretation of reports relevant to the use and success of advising services. Work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Distance Learning, Diversity Affairs, Workforce Alignment, and the high school dual enrollment program.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Manage and direct academic advisors and the academic advising process on the Valparaiso/Michigan City campus.
2. Review, analyze, and evaluate advising efforts and participate in the developments of enhancements consistent with enrollment growth patterns.
3. Maintain close working relationships with School Deans, Program Chairs, and Student Support Professionals.
4. Train all full-time and part-time academic advisors.
5. Participate in training of current and new faculty advisors
6. Participate in campus and statewide committees as needed
7. Represent the campus as needed on the statewide committees relative to academic advising
8. Prepare and update annually an Advisor’s Manual (paper and web) in conjunction with any Collegewide efforts
9. Other duties as assigned

Supervision Received: Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an academic advising center are required.
Broad knowledge of enrollment management processes and the ability to develop and maintain close working relationships with both internal and external constituents.
Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and make decisions.
Interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle major projects simultaneously are required.
Computer literacy and orientation toward creative uses of technology in the delivery of services for students is required.
Must possess willingness and an ability to travel.
Position requires sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the College students and employees.
Fully supports the College’s mission and strategic plan initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in counseling, student personnel, adult or higher education, or other related discipline preferred.
Experience in a community college preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Other Requirements:
Official college transcripts required upon hiring, and employment contingent on acceptable criminal background checks.
Work Hours:
Primarily Monday-Friday daytime hours, but some evening and weekend hours will be required as needed, primarily during peak enrollment periods.
Hiring Range:
$52,000 - $57,000 per year
