General Description of Position:
Providing real world experience to supplement teaching skills, the Criminal Justice adjunct professors are a key part of instruction for those students interested in the Criminal Justice program of Ivy Tech. Our adjunct professors come from varied backgrounds such as law enforcement, policing (criminal investigation, community relations), corrections (probation, parole, jailing), court services (procedural law, rehabilitation, legal aid), and more.
The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the Division.
Major Responsibilities:
PROGRAM OPERATION:
Performs all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes.
Provides syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements.
Maintains student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook.
Submits requested information within established time lines.
STUDENTS:
Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance.
Deals with student concerns and, if necessary, consults with the Program Chair to resolve issues.
INSTRUCTION:
Meets all scheduled classes of contracted course(s).
Uses technology such as Blackboard, PowerPoint, etc., as appropriate.
In the event of an emergency absence, notifies Program Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:
A qualified faculty member in criminal justice meets both of the following criteria:
1. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, sociology, or human services, behavioral sciences, or other related fields,
and
2. Possesses one of the following:
Professional certification in the field, or Two years of directly related work experience,
or
Completed academic preparation appropriate to the program
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous teaching experience, preferred.
