CTV News is seeking an exceptional, experienced investigative journalist and broadcast leader to head its flagship documentary/current affairs program, W5. Now in its 56th season, W5 is Canada's most-watched newsmagazine and the longest-running program of its kind in North America.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and will instill confidence in the team of journalists, producers, associate producers, cinematographers, editors and support staff they will lead. They will have a solid knowledge of the law as it pertains to journalism. Additionally, they will be well versed in current events and have a vision for turning ideas into populist stories for broadcast and digital platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Plan, conceive and develop programming, interviews and stories for W5 *Work with the Senior Producer and Managing Editor, direct on-air talent, supervise producers, associate producers and others assigned to the program *Build line-ups and plan for a full season of W5 within annual budgets and in consultation with the Vice-president, News and the network's programming department *Vet and approve story and studio scripts, in consultation with legal counsel as required *Along with the Senior Producer, give final approval for each episode prior to broadcast
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

*Experience producing long-form current affairs programs *Experience in investigative journalism *Experience generating story ideas *Ability to handle multiple priorities and simultaneous projects while meeting tight deadlines *Ability to build, collaborate with, motivate and lead a team *Excellent knowledge of news and current affairs *Excellent organizational skills *Knowledge of the law in regards to journalism and broadcast *Familiarity with industry codes and standards *Strong oral and written communications skills *Knowledge or experience in independent documentary production is an asset *A university degree or equivalent, preferably in Broadcast or Journalism *Minimum seven years journalism experience, preferably at a network level

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
