General Maintenance Worker - Expeditor (Internal Posting)

Bering - Kaya Support Services (BKSS) is seeking a General Maintenance Worker / Expeditor to perform routine maintenance duties including material handling and truck driving may be performed under supervision by qualified personnel or independently.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Reports to the MDA Lodging Manager.
In absence of the Lodging Manager, reports to the Deputy Site Manager.
When not performing duties as a General Maintenance Worker, which includes routine maintenance duties and furniture and appliance movement, will perform expediting duties.
Compiles and maintains material and parts inventory and status information to expedite movement of material and parts between vendors, different departments and work areas, according to predetermined schedules and order priorities.
Reads and schedules inventory reports and work orders to determine type and quantity of materials required.
Tracks availability of stock and order priority.
Confers with department supervisors to determine overdue material and parts.
Informs supervisors of material status.
Locates and distributes materials to specified work areas.
Manually uses handcart, hand truck, or forklift.
Records and maintains inventory of quantity and type of materials and parts received, stocked and distributed, manually or using computer.
Compiles and maintains records, such as material inventory records, and production records, manually or using computer.
Examine material received, verity part numbers, and check discrepancies, such as damaged or unmarked parts.
Compare work ticket specifications to material used at work stations to verify appropriate assignment.
May drive truck to outlying work areas to move furniture or major appliances, check status of orders, or to deliver materials.
May assist in shipping and receiving of materials.
Duties can include: rough carpentry, painting, and basic equipment or facility repairs.
All carpentry, electrical work, or simple plumbing repairs are performed under supervision by qualified personnel.
Monitor the flow of materials, components, tooling and paperwork between departments to conform with production schedules.
Confer with supervisors to eliminate difficulties and delays.
Facilitate rush orders, prepare standard progress reports, and notify a supervisor of major problems.
Perform other tasks as required
Job Requirements :
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School Diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
The successful candidate will be required to join the Laborers Union, Local 942.
Preferred 10 years experience in logistics
Must be a steady, punctual, and reliable worker.
Must be able to read, understand, and communicate effectively and clearly the English language.
Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams.
Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after being given specific instructions.
Must have general knowledge of simple equipment used in the building trades.
Injury exposure could be minor cuts and bruises; considerable physical effort of hands and arms required.
Must have knowledge of acceptable maintenance services including occupational safety and health regulations.
Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment.
Mature judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
Physical stamina and strength in all of its forms (endurance, temperature/climate, stress, etc) is a basic requirement of this position.
Safety Toed Shoes required.
Bobcat/Forklift Certified..
Additional Qualifying Factors :
Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License with NO major infractions.
Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
Ability to obtain and maintain secret level security clearance, granted interim clearance within 90 days of employment.
As a condition of employment, candidates must have acceptable background check .
This position may be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing on an unannounced basis. .
Working Environment / Physical Activities :
This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools and to paint. Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to perform repairs, use ladders, and perform various types of manual labor. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
