Capital Planning Manager
Charlotte, NC Job Summary Looking for an experienced individual with high integrity and strong organizational, interpersonal, and strategic leadership skills to fill a Capital Planning Manager position. The individual who is selected to fill this role will possess technical, capital project, and financial acumen. This position is part of the Engineering & Projects Organization and reports to the GBU Senior Engineering Director. The role will work closely with other senior members of the Engineering & Projects and Global Business Unit (GBU) finance organizations as well as project controls. The overall focus of this role will be to work with the lithium manufacturing sites & capital project leaders to ensure that we are “doing the right projects” and, in parallel, enhance portfolio reporting & tracking that the selected projects are “being done right.” Subject Matter Expertise: Support GBU Senior Engineering Director with activities to progressively shape and define the investment opportunities within the portfolio that achieve the GBU business objectives Ensure sites capital plans are aligned with the business and manufacturing long term (5 year) plans Ensure alignment of Lithium GBU sustaining capital plan with process technology (PT) and MTS portfolio & priorities Plan/Drive/Facilitate regular (quarterly at a minimum) reviews of the capital plan with key business and manufacturing leaders Assist with the prioritization and investment of selected projects based on key characteristics which collectively achieve the strategic objectives of the GBU Develop capital premises, focusing on high-level cost/business and economic justification (FEL 0, 1) that align with the business strategic plans Assess (both quantitatively and qualitatively) project health both pre- and post-Final Investment Decision (FID) to ensure alignment with the overall capital strategy Apply expertise in bottom-up design, design optimization, risk management, contracting & procurement and ramp-up of production processes to ensure integrated planning with production (manufacturing organization) and sales (commercial organization) Support the GBU Senior Engineering Director and Site Sustaining Capital Managers to ensure a sound project decision-making process supported by robust project development processes and practices are applied for a frozen and clearly defined scope, and perform as expected in terms of safety, capacity, operating cost, product quality Run scenario analysis and business simulations that can reduce the amount of capital invested while improving overall production Business, Function, & Team Leadership: Assist the GBU Senior Engineering Director in development of the capital-portion of the annual operating plan (AOP) Drive business, project management, and technical engineering skills and acumen across multiple, global manufacturing sites Collaborate with finance and project control functions to build portfolio reporting including utilization of data analytics approaches and BI Assist with the development, implementation and integration of project management controls and project management information systems (PMIS) for Lithium GBU sustaining capital portfolio Collaborate with the Engineering & Project’s finance organization to develop an enhanced investment tracking system to consolidate information of the GBU capital project portfolio for improved prioritization and management processes Assist the GBU Senior Engineering Director to ensure that stakeholders are informed of the project development status at all times with consistent, concise, and unambiguous information Support the site capital teams with the development of the business case for the projects to ensure alignment with the strategic GBU objectives Qualifications Required Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Construction Management and/or applicable course of study or equivalent work experience Experience: 10-15 years of experience in process industries (refining, petrochemical, chemical) Experience managing the project lifecycle of major projects, preferably in a chemical plant or refining environment Experience with a phase-gate or stage-gate project work process Prior engagement with Independent Project Analysis (IPA) Experience in economic modeling and business simulations of potential capital investment scenarios Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with a high level of precision and integrity to internal and external stakeholders. Cross functional collaboration at executive level is helpful.
