Senior Accountant
Cullman, AL

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting strongly preferred, Certified Public Accounting license preferred, and at least three years of experience in general or tax accounting. Experience with computerized ledger systems, advanced knowledge of Excel, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to function well in a team-oriented environment. Must meet Park Board employment and physical standards, including a background check and drug and alcohol screening. Experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and aptitude to perform the defined duties. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the overall management, direction, and application of accounting principles and procedures within the accounting department, including accounts receivable/payable, general ledger, purchase order system, etc.
Maintains ethically sound financials for CPRST Board and CPRST Foundation Board cash and savings accounts and assumes regulatory reporting and compliance responsibility.
Manages the recruiting, training, and performance management of direct report(s), as needed.
Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Department in the financial areas of general accounting, payroll, cash receipts, accounts payable, related financial operations, and decision support.
Oversees internal control systems and related procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory laws and financial and tax reporting regulations.
Oversees all accounting, payroll, and financial operations, including cash management, record maintenance, and financial statement preparation. 
Oversees year-end financial statements and applicable audits. Responsible for preparing the annual budget, including coordination with CPRST management. Monitors performance against budget and provides monthly performance reports.
Provides professional and technical advice, support, and data interpretation to the Executive Director and CPRST management.
Solicits critical evaluations from administrative and professional personnel to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's financial operations.
Prepares written and oral reports and progress briefings on the organization's financial state.
Responsible for coordinating and supporting the CPRST Board Finance Committee, in collaboration with the committee chair and CPRST Executive Director, to develop the agenda for the committee, staff the meetings, and ensure that official committee records are maintained in accordance with records retention rules.
As a member of CPRST’s senior management team, participates in developing goals, objectives and tactical plans consistent with the organizational strategic plan and vision.  Advances CPRST's ability to meet and exceed key strategic initiatives.
Acts as a team member with other Parks and Recreation staff, embracing and supporting the vision and mission of the CPRST Board of Directors and the City of Cullman.
Exhibits a high level of professionalism and ethics, working amicably with the Park Board, the Executive Director, Administrators, Personnel, and Community.
Exhibits proficiency in written and oral communication.
Work hours vary, likely including some nights and weekends, with hours varying based on time of year, events, and projects.
Attends all meetings as requested by the Executive Director.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work area is well-lighted, ventilated and heated. Occasionally work outdoors where there is a potential to be exposed to various weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is mostly sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Some walking, standing, bending, stooping and carrying light items may be required. Must be able to lift twenty-five pounds without assistance.
