The Opinions Bureau is responsible for advising State officers and State’s Attorneys on matters related to their official duties, often in the form of written legal opinions.  The issues addressed by the Opinions Bureau include civil or criminal matters, the application of State or Federal law, and the construction of statutory and constitutional provisions and administrative rules. 

Responsibilities:

An Assistant Attorney General in the Opinions Bureau is responsible for researching issues, drafting proposed responses, and responding to inquiries from members of the public. 

Qualifications:

Candidates must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application.  Candidates must have excellent research and writing skills, possess sound judgment, work well independently, and demonstrate an interest in public service. 

Salary:          

Salaries are commensurate with the number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and start at $76,008.
