The Senior Paralegal will support the delivery of quality legal services by providing Paralegal support to the Labor & Employment function at PPG Industries, Inc. reporting to the Sr. Counsel of Labor & Employment. We are seeking a positive individual who regularly demonstrates initiative, is highly motivated to learn new skills, flexible with work assignments and works well with people. The Paralegal will be expected to exercise discretion and good judgment at all times in assisting the legal professionals. This person must be able to function with minimal supervision and is expected to take independent action in performing job responsibilities.
Work collaboratively with attorneys to draft and review legal documents, including but not limited to position statements to be filed with federal, state and local administrative agencies, responses to attorney letters, power of attorney and guardianship documents
Manage discovery and e-discovery issues including legal holds, preservation, collection and production for litigation matters; coordinate fact gathering and drafting responses to discovery requests and third-party subpoenas
Interact with various departments (e.g., Human Resources, Benefits, Payroll, and third-party vendors) to request necessary documents; manage requests for employee data such as personnel files, time records, and payroll records from internal and external resources; conduct initial sorting of employee data as
appropriate to determine if responsive information was provided; analyze information received and follow-up as necessary; perform fact and legal research, as needed
Create, evaluate and implement processes to improve management of legal related processes (e.g., garnishments and subpoenas)
Work with administrative staff to ensure proper calendaring of all events/deadlines
Perform other duties and special projects as requested by the attorneys; will involve handling confidential and sensitive material.
A Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field is preferred
Paralegal Certification preferred
A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a paralegal
Litigation experience is required
Knowledge of Labor & Employment law is preferred
Outstanding administration, organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills to build key relationships
Excellent problem solving, decision-making and prioritization skills
Multi-tasking abilities with high degree of tenacity and persistence
Ability and desire to work in highly dynamic environment and to embrace change, innovation and ambiguity
Experience with process improvements, implementing technology solutions and change management approaches and methodologies.
Ability to triage incoming inquiries as well as identify and troubleshoot issues, escalate, and/or provide recommendation and resolution options to stakeholders.
Enthusiasm and passion for technology, law and/or business.
