Based in Old Town Alexandria in Virginia serving individuals and businesses throughout Virginia, D.C., and Maryland, Shannon Mullins & Wright LLP provides services in the following practice areas: Business, Tax, Estate & Trust, Construction, Litigation, Land Use, and Real Estate. During this time of high demand and opportunity in our complex, fast-paced and varied civil litigation practice, the ideal candidate will bring minimum of 5 years of direct civil and commercial practice area and litigation experience to our expanding law firm.
This position will report directly to the Managing Partner while collaboratively working with our other partners, attorneys, paralegal and SMW team. The position will entail working all aspects of legal cases from direct client interaction and communications through drafting independent motions, representing the firm as second-chair in Circuit Court and Appellate level cases, and lead counsel in General District Court matters.

Independently manage and perform complex civil litigation procedures to caseload from client intake to closing file as assigned
Work closely and support Partners’ cases and legal projects representing clients in a wide range of litigation needs
Regularly attend, lead and assist in court appearances and depositions
Consistently communicate and update clients on case progress and actions
Meet with new clients to assess, draft and complete the legal needs of the new clients
Coordinate and assist in all aspects of litigation through trial and completion of the case
Ensure timely entry of time and billing details daily and in line with the firm best practices
Work with Firm Administrator and the Managing Partner to support the goals of the firm and the partners
Ensure all actions are in support of the Virginia Bar and other applicable bars, and legal best practices
Ideal Candidates will:
Have current Virginia Bar Membership in good standing
Have minimum 5 years successfully litigating civil cases in Virginia courts
Have minimum 2 years of lead chair litigation experience
Demonstrate advanced understanding of civil court system
Demonstrate strong understanding of commercial law knowledge
Demonstrate strong legal processes and local court requirement familiarity including trial and appellate court systems
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
Have excellent organizational skills including capturing, detailing and follow up skills
Demonstrate professionalism with all team members
Commit to the professional, integrity and loyalty that are keystones for the firm
Have professional office experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel
Preferred, but not required:
DC Bar Membership
Maryland Bar Membership
Clio software experience
Sharepoint software experience
Background checks: All successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal background check.
