Title: Internal Auditor III
Job Description
Internal Audit provides a remarkable opportunity for team members to understand Calpine’s business, processes, people and technology. The scope of our efforts spans across all aspects of Calpine’s business, from governance and financial management through business operations, information technology and customer interaction.
Position Summary:
Internal Auditors can expect to participate on projects that cover a wide range of topics, in areas significant to the Company objectives, while interacting with various levels of management. Internal Auditors work closely with the business owners using our expertise to support Calpine in matters related to risk management, operations, finance, information technology, business improvements, governance, and controls.
The Senior Internal Auditor reports directly to the Internal Audit Manager and is primarily responsible for guiding the audits toward successful completion. The Senior Auditor will be responsible for audit projects from planning to report and often provides guidance to other staff auditors assigned to the project. The senior auditor may work in various roles on individual audits, project lead or as a contributor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for conducting and documenting audit projects in a variety of areas with an emphasis on operational, and financial audits in accordance with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF);
• Evaluates business processes, procedures, policies and internal controls and identifies factors causing deficiencies;
• Evaluates internal controls and designs and conducts tests;
• Provides audit support to fellow Calpine staff as well as outside consultants to facilitate the audit processes;
• Provides services in the area of research, data analysis, and at the more senior levels, managing audit projects;
• Audits the accounting and statistical data of various departments, divisions and locations in order to verify accuracy in compliance with plans, policies and procedures prescribed by management;
• Performs Data Analytics including complex analysis, dashboard report and exception reporting;
• Cooperates with outside auditors in any undertaking that may expedite their work. • Assists in the implementation and support of a continuous auditing program;
• Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately using professional oral and written communications with all levels of management;
• Prepares and submits reports of audit results including making recommendations on matters of significance and follows up on audit recommendations to ensure implementation; and
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Seasoned professional with advanced applied experience - three to six years of internal audit experience;
• Comprehensive knowledge – applies advanced skills contributing to knowledge areas within function, but not yet an expert in all;
• Makes recommendations on moderately complex issues regarding project components and tasks – may make recommendations on new processes, tools and services; supports and contributes to development of new products, services or techniques;
• Works on problems of diverse scope ranging from moderate to complex – uses independent judgment requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors.
• Requires little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments;
• Serves as project/technical lead on small to medium sized projects; may coordinate work of professionals, technicians and others outside of own department;
• Resource integrator – builds professional networks and identifies and connects resources to achieve goals. Regularly contributes actionable ideas in brainstorming and planning sessions;
• Strong analytical skills to analyze complex and inconsistent data;
• Exposure to Electronic Work papers (e.g. TeamMate);
• Knowledge of the following: Microsoft Office Applications, Windows, and Data Analysis Tools; and
• Experience with Data Analytics, Advanced Excel and Business Intelligence tools (i.e. Microsoft Power BI, Cognos, Tableau). (Preferred)
Education and Training:
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA
• Professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CFA or CMA (Required)

Portfolio of Assignments: (estimated)
• SOX/Compliance: 10% - 15%
• Operational & Financial Audits: 65% - 75%
• Consulting/Other Projects: 5% - 10%
Travel:
• Ability to travel domestically: 25%
