Job Description
Balson Faix & McVey LLP is seeking a full-time estate planning and trust and estate paralegal to join our in-person team in our Greenwood Village office (DTC).
This is a direct hire opportunity where the successful candidate will earn $65-75k per year, depending upon experience. This is an in-person, onsite position, with regular daytime hours Monday–Friday
Qualifications for this position include:
3-5 years experience as a paralegal or legal assistant preferred Highly organized and keen attention to detail Excellent client service skills Basic knowledge of, and exposure to, estate planning (preferred) and estate and trust administration process, including familiarity with estate planning (preferred), probate and trust administration legal terms, practices, and procedures, with preference given to candidates who are familiar with Colorado practices and procedures Associate or bachelor’s Degree from accredited institution preferred, or alternatively, Paralegal Certification from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited Paralegal Studies program or similar ABA accredited program required Highly organized and Excellent communication skills, written and oral Strong MS Suite proficiency (Microsoft 365, Outlook, Adobe, Word, Excel) Clio Software (preferred) Ability to handle and prioritize competing tasks Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete projects Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
Responsibilities will include providing support to the firm’s attorneys, paralegals and clients with estate and trust administration and estate planning matters including:
Preparing all pleadings to open, manage and close estates E-filing pleadings with the Colorado e-filing system Drafting Deeds and E-recording with Simplifile Communicating with clients, beneficiaries and attorneys to keep estates and trust administration matters moving forward Gathering information from clients and third parties Preparing accountings Drafting transfer documents for various estate or trust assets, including preparing deeds to trusts, personal representative and trustee deeds, assignments of LLC and partnership interests and stock assignments, beneficiary claim forms and beneficiary designation forms Drafting a variety of estate and trust administration documents including Letters of Instruction to financial institutions, Certificates of Trust, and Statements of Authority Maintaining list of all active open cases and status of each and recording status of each case as activities occur in firm database Clio Capturing Advanced Client cost to client matters in Clio Organizing and maintaining client files Maintaining a calendar and tickler system for trust and estate matters Ideally, drafting basic estate planning documents including general and medical durable powers of attorney, HIPAA authorizations, living wills, disposition of remains, guardianship designations, tangible personal property disposition statements, wills, and revocable trusts
