Your Opportunity We are conducting a search for a Director of Public Affairs and Issues Management to join Schwab\u2019s Corporate External Relations team to play a key role in advancing the company as a leading corporate citizen   Reporting to the Managing Director, Corporate External Relations, the Director is responsible for helping shape the reputation of the Charles Schwab Corporation among key stakeholder audiences through owned, traditional, and digital/social media. The Director will work to deploy communications in support of the firm\u2019s Legislative and Regulatory Affairs group and its policy objectives and will be based in Washington DC and will also play a vital role in building and preserving trust in the organization through management of critical issues and crises.   The successful candidate will provide thoughtful communications counsel and craft and implement relevant strategies to build and preserve a high level of trust in Schwab.   Workplace Flexibility Program:We're proud to support our employees in a working approach that allows you to bring your best self to work \u2013 whether that\u2019s in the office or remote. What you are good at Specific areas of responsibility include: Public Affairs: Lead and support public communications related to legal, policy and regulatory matters, privacy and data security matters, as well as any Issues Management and crisis response ; Working in close partnership with Schwab\u2019s Legal departments. Issues Management: Support response efforts for potential reputational issues identified in policy, regulatory and security channels. Corporate Spokesperson: Serve as a public spokesperson Communications: Coordinate and lead development of owned and earned content, across channels, used to tell Schwab\u2019s story Relationships: Work cross-functionally with senior leaders in Marketing, Legal, the Office of Corporate Counsel and Compliance, and with peers spanning all corporate communications functions in sharing best practices and insights. What you have Minimum 12-15 years communications experience within a large corporation or agency, of which a minimum of seven focused in public affairs Deep understanding of the political landscape, key customers and opinion elites who shape important financial services debates. Ability to understand complex issues, analyze options, and develop strategic plans addressing potential impacts. Experience developing and implementing a public affairs strategy, including short and long-term goals and establishing methods of measuring the communications plan's impact on and contribution to the organization. Lead all aspects of proactive public affairs media engagement and relationship building among reporters with share of voice on priority issues; roll-out of key public policy positions through communications channels and tactics Requires a strong awareness of relevant partners and current events impacting the financial services industry. Advise senior executives on communications strategies that break through at the national and state level; proactively develop new and creative approaches to target customers Strong media relations skills and familiarity with relevant business, local and trade media. Robust understanding of social media platforms and strategic usage to advance corporate reputation goals. Experience serving as a spokesperson in high-profile situations and handling issues on behalf of a corporation. Financial services experience preferred. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization. A highly collaborative working style effectively establishing trust and respect. Shown ability to successfully engage and influence business partners and third-party customers (such as media, influencers, analysts, policymakers). Outstanding client focus and a demonstrated ability cultivate positive relationships inside and outside the organization. Strong emotional intelligence/maturity.
