Job Description
POSITIONS SUMMARY – Intermediate Designer
Specializing in Piping and Mechanical drafting, this role’s function is to; prepare and examine engineering drawings for client’s review as well as internal drawings for design process purposes; to work as part of a team in the development of new or existing products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Create 3D piping, mechanical, and structural models
Design and generation of drawings in the following areas:
Process flow diagrams
Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
General Arrangement drawings
Isometric drawings
As-built drawings
Assist in the preparation of bids/estimates
Prepares Bills of Material relative to design documentation
Prepare drawings for standard product packages
Participate in Design Reviews
Makes various calculations and frequently uses charts and tables to accommodate the design process
Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems; recommending possible solutions or alternate construction; modifying drawings as required; confers with engineers to resolve issues
Check drawings as required
Some evening and weekends may be required to meet deadlines
May mentor less experienced Designers
Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel code
CAD software: CADWorx Plant Professional, CADWorx Equipment, ISOGEN, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical, experience essential
Familiarity with any of the following tools is considered an asset : COMPRESS, CAESAR II, Navisworks
Excellent understanding of piping, instrumentation, valves and control functionality
Proficient in the use of all common MS office software
Organized, with attention to detail
Good listening, writing and communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE - SKILLS
Technical certificate or diploma in design drafting from an accredited technical institute or college
5 years designing and documenting piping, vessels, mechanical, structural equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
C.E.T. designation would be considered an asset
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Highly comfortable in a demanding – dynamic environment
Self motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision
Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
Proactively identifies and recommends areas for process improvement within the organization
