CAD DESIGNER II
Under general supervision, the CAD Designer II will complete product layouts and prepare assembly and detail drawings. The incumbent will analyze assemblies for tolerance
stackups and weights, using charts, tables and material specifications as well as prepare bills of material, and specifications as required. The incumbent will develop unique mechanical designs under engineering guidance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create moderate to complex designs, layouts, assembly drawings, and detail drawings for new or existing products, special machinery designs, test equipment, tools, fixtures, and gauge designs.
Understand moderate to complex mechanical and electro/mechanical systems and schematics.
Complete drafting projects with 2-D modeling software (AutoCAD) and 3-D modeling software (SolidWorks and/or ProE).
Analyze various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions.
Generate solid model renditions or 3D printer models to facilitate marketing and sales requirements.
Prepare all drawings and drawing changes in accordance with divisional standards and procedures.
Evaluate materials, parts, and products for use in new or existing designs.
Prepare written reports and memoranda as needed to fulfill assignments.
Initiate changes requested for documentation changes or releases.
Implement design changes through the DS Quality System.
Manage project drawing/documentation packages for new product development.
Complete geometric tolerancing analysis and present findings to operations staff and other affected parties.
Plan and prepare preliminary layouts and detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches, and/or other drawings, ensuring they meet company and industry standards and codes.
Participate in cross functional teams through investigation of new product ideas and failure analysis.
Able to recommend cost saving initiatives of new materials, new designs or assembly procedures to engineers.
Secures quotations for new product development.
All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Experience transitioning projects from design concept to finished design, including layouts, tolerance valuations and detail drawings.
Familiarity with electrical / mechanical components and symbols.
The ability to evaluate electromechanical systems, including reading and interpreting schematics and drawings.
Knowledge of MS Office suite, (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) or similar software packages for recording/retrieving data and preparing reports.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
Attention to detail and appreciation of deadlines.
Ability to prioritize projects.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Disploma or GED required.
Trade / Technical School or Associate's Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Mechanical Drawing or Engineering preferred.
1 to 3 years of previous experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design in a manufacturing environment preferred.
