Job Title
Assistant Attorney General - Child Support Enforcement

Company
Office of the Illinois Attorney General

Job Description
The Child Support Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Joliet office to handle child support enforcement cases and other litigation in northern Illinois.  A strong candidate will have a demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work and experience handling a high volume of cases.  Travel is required, as the Joliet office is responsible for child support cases in Will, Kendall, Grundy, LaSalle, Kankakee, and Bureau Counties.

Attorneys in the Child Support Enforcement Division represent the Department of Healthcare and Family and the Department of Human Services.  While most of the litigation involves child support enforcement, attorneys also must handle personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, excess assistance recoveries, administrative review actions, bankruptcy cases in federal court, and miscellaneous matters.  Attorneys appear in court several times a week and must be able to manage several cases during each call, and conduct formal evidentiary hearings when settlement is not reached.  Attorneys also must prepare pleadings and responses to motions, and research legal issues. Excellent litigation and negotiation skills are a must.  This position also requires superior interpersonal skills as attorneys must maintain good working relationships with court officials and agency staff, as well as interact with the families needing child support enforcement services.

Salary:

Salaries are commensurate with the number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and start at $76,008. Candidates must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application.

To ensure full consideration, please send cover letter, resume, three professional references, and writing sample to:
