  1. Job = Business - Treat your job as you would a business. Whether inside the company or outside, everyone is your client. Make sure they are happy when they deal with you.

  2. Network Continuously - Effectively networking is perhaps one of the best things you can do to promote your career. Ensure that you become a person that is highly valuable, reliable and useful. Ask less, do more - and very soon you will reap excellent benefits.

  3. Be Dependable - If you have taken up a project, you superiors and team members should be able to count on you that you will do your part before or by the deadline.

  4. Mentor Someone - It is extremely good for the company, for your team and your superiors that you mentor someone coming into your field. Contrary to common belief, knowledge shared is knowledge gained. You will end up learning more through mentoring someone.

  5. Find a Mentor - A mentor can be an excellent guide for propelling your career forward. Very often you do not see the big picture as clearly as someone more senior and with more experience.

  6. Never Stop Learning - Never rest on your laurels. To climb the ladder you need to continuously evolve. You need to become not "an expert" but "THE expert" in any one aspect in your field.

  7. Be Courteous to All - Everyone will be courteous to the boss; that it obvious. It is the person who is polite to colleagues and juniors that is appreciated.

  8. Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses - To move fast up the ladder it is important that you know your strengths. However, it is even more critical that you know your weaknesses and either correct them wherever and however you can - through training, extra classes, etc - or ensure that you get help in those areas when your work demands it. It is not bad to ask help; it is terrible however, to let down your team with a sloppy job just because you did not want to acknowledge your weak points.

  9. Be an Excellent Team Player - Cooperate with your team members and put in your best without looking for or grabbing credit. Do not worry that your work will be lost. Your popularity will grow quickly and you will be singled out easily when you give 100% to every job you do in a team.

  10. Respect Working Hours - Give everything you have during those hours and unless there are any super urgent projects that cannot helped, do not do overtime and do not carry work home. A proper work/life balance is very important and critical to your success.
