A lead auditor is responsible for providing guidance and direction to an audit team, drafting reports, and distributing the same to the executive management. A lead auditor may be required to collaborate with various departments and ensure smooth processes and controls. Responsibilities include offering continuous improvements to the department or organization, particularly in regards to testing methodologies and end products. A lead auditor also develops and utilizes knowledge of the company\'s information systems and their applications.
A lead auditor should have a bachelor degree in finance, accounting, or related discipline. A CPA or CIA qualification is always preferred. Experience of 2+ years in audit and accounting is usually required. A lead auditor with experience within a Big Four public accounting firm, a Fortune 500, or financial services internal audit environment may be at an advantage. Working knowledge of GAAP may be required for some positions.
