The coding compliance officer supervises all activities related to coding education for outpatient and inpatient professional fee services; and maintains a close working relationship with the company management to support provider coding accuracy that is consistent with industry standards. It should also be in compliance with coding guidelines. The coding compliance officer is accountable for developing/maintaining a culture of service, financial discipline, compliance, ethics and integrity. The coding compliance officer also maintains knowledge of and assures departmental compliance with principles of responsibility, policies and procedures, applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. The coding compliance officer works under the compliance coding analyst and has to fulfill tasks assigned to him.
The coding compliance officer should at least be a graduate in accounting and possess a compliance academy certification. He should have at least two years experience in an auditing or compliance setting.
