Duties for an HVAC job may include inspecting air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation; performing regular scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units; installing residential or commercial HVAC systems; diagnosing mechanical and electrical malfunctions; replacing or repairing damaged equipment; calibrating thermostatic controls; repairing or replacing low and high pressure liquid lines; inspecting and observing pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of units; and maintaining chilled and hot water supply systems.
An HVAC job requires a bachelor\'s degree and preferably a mechanical engineering degree. A professional registration may be required for most jobs. Knowledge of principles and practices of HVAC maintenance and repair, and hazard and safety practices common to the trade are important. An HVAC job may require ability to interpret building codes and regulations.
