Resident Counselor

Glove House, Inc. – Elmira, NY
The Resident Counselor is the staff member most immediate to the youngsters in residence. This role is critical to the growth and development of these youngsters’ potential as individuals and as group members. The Resident Counselor utilizes his/her personality, knowledge and skills in their relationships with youngsters. Residential Counselors maintain child care standards which support the high quality of services provided by the agency.
Duties/Responsibilities
Monitors and directs the daily care program, may include meal time and prep, snack prep, recreational activities, study and “quiet time”, wake-up and bedtime schedules, etc.
Participates in the development and implementation of treatment programs for each youngster.
Provides a positive adult role model for the youngsters, including areas of hygiene, appearance and manners. Maintains a climate conducive to nurturing and growth needs of youngsters.
Functions as a team member. Identifies and communicates problem areas to the team.
May accompany youngsters to medical appointments and other related child care functions.
Assures that household responsibilities and housekeeping functions are performed as required.
Attends and participates in staff meetings or conferences deemed appropriate.
Contributes to in-service training through presentation and participation.
Performs other duties as assigned by his/her manager.
Requirements
Education/Experience requirements: Associate’s Degree/Bachelors degree in a related field preferred. High School diploma required and one year experience working with children/youth; high school diploma and completion of the Residential Child Care Worker Certificate program. Required to drive on company business.
Physical Demands
Some physical effort required. Must be able to physically restrain aggressive youngsters. Required to be on feet much of the time.
Full time and Part time positions available, both day and evening shifts. We have facilities located in Owego,
Elmira
Bath
, and
Ithaca
Base Pay $8.30 - $10.00/hour. Overtime available.
