Job Description
The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI’s intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide electron microscopy, protein characterization, protein expression, optical microscopy and genetics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

The CCR Sequencing Facility (SF) has been established by CCR to manage the operation of multiple platforms for next-generation and third-generation sequencing in support of NCI investigators. This is a unique matrix organization that pulls in capabilities from the Data Science and Information Technology Program (DSITP), Quality Management and the CRTP Genomics Laboratory.
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to join our group. Motivated candidates who recently obtained a Ph.D. with a strong background in molecular and cell biology are encouraged to apply. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with SF Research & Development (R&D) group to support the research activities of a single cell sequencing project selected for funding under the Laboratory Directed Exploratory Research Program (LDER) program of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. Initial assignments will have a term of one year, beginning in Fall/Winter 2017, with the potential of additional one-year extensions, contingent on the funding of new proposals.
The successful candidate will utilize various techniques and platforms in the field of next-generation sequencing including single cell sequencing, PacBio (long-read) sequencing, target capture etc. The successful candidate will also work with laboratory and informatics staff to develop, implement and perform laboratory processes in support of the SF R&D operations. The candidate will be expected to participate in experimental design and result discussions and presentations, and remain current with new applications and technologies associated with single-cell sample preparation, library construction, sample enrichment and target capture techniques associates with NGS.
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Doctorate degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
No experience required beyond the education requirement
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following:
isolation and manipulation of DNA and RNA,
cell culture and cell-based assays,
independent design and performance of experiments, and troubleshooting the problems, when required
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Experience with next-generation sequencing (short-read &/or long-read sequencing platforms)
Experience with single cell assays
Familiarity with LIMS
