I USED TO HATE JOB BOARDS AND STILL DO!!
Hello, I used to hate job boards when I was looking for a job. I used all of the job boards you too have probably heard about and used as well—Monster, HotJobs, CareerBuilder and so forth. The thing that really pissed me off about these job boards was that almost all of the jobs on them were from recruiters. It was a complete waste of my time. I would call one recruiter after another and some of them would not even tell me who the employer was. Most of the recruiters did not even pick up their phones or return my emails. Almost all of my applications I was sending out were going to recruiters, and not the actual employers. It was pretty rare that I was able to see a job from an actual employer. When I did, I would apply, but this was the exception and not the rule. What a lousy way to look for a job! Most Jobs Are Actually on Employer Websites and Not Job Boards. I wanted to really know what was going on in the market so what I did was I started looking at the websites of employers. I could not believe it. This is where all the jobs were. There were 50+ jobs on many of these sites. There were so many employers out there, I could not keep track of them. For example, I am an attorney and there are over 2,000+ law firms in Los Angeles alone. Trying to track down all of these employer sites was exhausting. The incredible thing is; however, is that if you take a sample of like 20 of these employers there are likely to be more jobs on the websites of these 20 employers than there are on Monster.com or another major website like this.
