About Montana Government: According to Montana Code Annotated, the administration of the laws of the state is carried out through the chief executive, i.e. the governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Auditor, Superintendant of the Public Instruction, Attorney General, Secretary of the State and by the employees and staff members of the branch agencies.

The state currently operates with 14 main departments. The state constitution has made provisions for establishing temporary commissions which may not be allocated within the department.
